Timber Processing

Every BuildLabs project begins with timber processing. In this video, see how our Computerized Numerically Controlled machines surpass the world’s finest carpenters in precision and consistency. Dove-tail joints, a detail that has been honed for 300 years, are at the center of our timber process creating seamless roof, wall, and floor elements. You will see how cutting, routing, and drilling are handled automatically throughout our factory.

Framing

After the timber has been processed, it is time to frame your home’s elements. Dove-tail joints create a hand-in-glove fit, meaning we don’t need nails for initial stabilization. With all the pieces in place, our CNC machines nail sheathing onto one side of the element, simultaneously fastening the element together and preparing it for insulation.

Insulation and Sheathing

Elements are insulated using CNC machines which place exact amounts of insulation in each component. Backed by certified reports, our clients can be sure that their home lives up to its energy expectations, as each cavity is filled to optimal density. After insulation, each element can be automatically closed with sheathing by CNC machines. Further processing, dictated by the unique requirements of each project, can also be done at this time.

Windows and Doors

The last step done in the factory is installing windows and doors. Traditionally, this is the most problematic step in construction. At BuildLabs, however, it is just the opposite. Windows and sliders that require teams to lift and position can be lifted by just one person. Safe in our factory, window and door openings are not exposed to the elements on site. While traditional construction requires a large rough opening to ensure proper placement, +1-2 inches on each side, we need no extra gap. This elimination helps us minimize energy loss and improve your home’s efficiency, helping both you and our planet.

With the off-site work completed, the build moves to the job site. Exact connection points are determined from the BIM Model and pre-cut into every element by CNC machines. Laser-tachymeter technology is used to translate connection points onto the site. When our elements arrive, our unique locking system means your home will be assembled with precision, streamlining your project saving time and money.
